Mass & Sacraments

The sacraments are the living signs through which Christ gives us his grace. Here you will find how they are celebrated in our parish.

Holy Mass

The Holy Mass

At Mass, the Church celebrates the sacrifice of Christ and receives his Body and Blood. The Eucharist is “the source and summit of the Christian life” (CCC 1324). Catholics are called to take part in Mass on Sundays and holy days of obligation.

Please contact the parish for the current Mass schedule.

Times may change for feasts, liturgical seasons and parish celebrations. See Contact & Visit.

The sacraments

Baptism

Baptism is the gateway to life in the Spirit and to the other sacraments. Through it we are freed from sin, reborn as children of God and made members of Christ and his Church. (Catechism of the Catholic Church 1213)

In our parish
Parents wishing to have a child baptised, and adults seeking Baptism, are asked to speak with the parish priest well in advance. Preparation for parents and godparents is normally required.

First Holy Communion

The Holy Eucharist completes Christian initiation. In it we receive the Body and Blood of Christ, truly present under the appearances of bread and wine. (Catechism of the Catholic Church 1322–1324)

In our parish
Children are prepared for First Holy Communion through parish catechesis. Please contact the parish for the current preparation programme.

Confirmation

Confirmation perfects baptismal grace. The baptised are more perfectly bound to the Church and strengthened by the Holy Spirit to bear witness to Christ. (Catechism of the Catholic Church 1285)

In our parish
Confirmation is usually celebrated by the bishop. Details of preparation are available from the parish.

Reconciliation (Confession)

In the Sacrament of Penance, those who have sinned after Baptism obtain pardon from God’s mercy and are reconciled with the Church. (Catechism of the Catholic Church 1422–1424)

In our parish
Times for confession will be listed with the Mass schedule once confirmed. You may also ask a priest at any time.

Matrimony

In the Sacrament of Matrimony a baptised man and woman establish a lifelong partnership, ordered to their good and to the procreation and education of children. (Catechism of the Catholic Church 1601)

In our parish
Couples are asked to contact the parish priest several months before the intended date so that preparation and the required documents can be arranged.

Anointing of the Sick

Through the sacred anointing and the prayer of priests, the whole Church commends the seriously ill and the elderly to the suffering and glorified Lord, that he may raise them up and save them. (Catechism of the Catholic Church 1499)

In our parish
If someone is seriously ill or near death, please contact the parish promptly so that a priest can visit.

Funerals and bereavement

The Christian funeral commends the dead to God, supports the hope of the family and community, and proclaims our faith in the resurrection. (Catechism of the Catholic Church 1680–1690)

In our parish
When a loved one dies, please contact the parish so that the funeral rites can be arranged with the family.

The parish does not offer online booking or registration for sacraments. Please contact the parishdirectly. Specific preparation requirements are set by the parish priest and the diocese and may differ from the general guidance above.
