Mary, Our Mother

Mary is the Mother of Jesus and our mother too. She always leads us to her Son.

Mary is the Mother of Jesus. God chose her to be the mother of his Son, and she said “yes” to God with all her heart.

Mary loved Jesus and cared for him as a baby, a child, and a grown man. At a wedding in Cana, when the wine ran out, Mary told the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” Jesus then changed water into wine. Mary always points us to Jesus.

When Jesus was dying on the Cross, he gave Mary to his disciple John as his mother. The Church teaches that Mary is our mother too.

We do not worship Mary. Only God is worshipped. But we honour her as Jesus’ mother, and we ask her to pray for us, just as we ask friends to pray for us.

A beautiful way to pray with Mary is the Rosary. While we pray the Hail Marys, we think about the joyful, sorrowful, glorious and luminous moments in the life of Jesus.
